Gretchen Murphy, LMT, NCTM, didn’t choose massage; it chose her—but it took a four-year nursing degree and six years of critical care nursing, and raising two children before she could honor its call.  “Massage uses all of me,” she says.  “My head, my heart, my hands, and the ability to listen with all three.  It’s both a joy and an honor for me to care for people in this way.”  Both state and nationally certified as a massage therapist, Gretchen is a graduate of Wisconsin Institute of Natural Wellness, Racine, and has completed courses at Louisville School of Massage in Louisville, Ky. She also holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Delaware.  Due to her strong medical background, she focuses on Western massage modalities for relaxation/stress reduction, pain management, and assistance with both acute and chronic muscular and joint conditions.  Both athletes (including weekend warriors) and those suffering from chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and repetitive use injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, can benefit from her integration of Swedish massage with deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, and postural analysis.  She enjoys teaching people how to swim, and both she and her husband are enthusiastic bicyclists.
